The Bulgarian Maria Aiolova has been living and working in New York for years. She teaches and works in the field of architecture and urbanism. The chief focus of her work is theory, science and application of social and ecological design. She is co-founder and director of the educational sector of Terreform ONE – a design group that promotes smart design in cities. Terreform ONE develops innovative solutions and technologies for sustainable practices in the fields of transport, city planning, infrastructure and waste disposal in separate populated areas. In addition, Maria is also an inventor: she holds 18 patents for technology and has also won many international awards and competitions, notably the 2013 AIA (American Institute of Architects) New York Award for Urban Design.

 Last year, Maria was appointed Academic Director of Global Architecture and Design of CIEE (Council on International Educational Exchange). She is currently Director of the ONE Lab NY School for Design and Science and of the One Prize Design and Science Award. Maria Aiolova has a considerable experience as a lecturer at prestigious institutions of higher education, such as the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, Pratt Institute, Parsons The New School for Design, Harvard GSD, the University of Toronto and Rhode Island School of Design.
