The sixth edition of the international festival for contemporary dance SOFIA DANCE WEEK will take place between October the 5th and 19th. The programme includes performances from Europe, Asia and America which demonstrate the differences and the variety of ideas for dance in the globalized world.
The festival is structured in the following modules: international programme, Bulgarian showcase, dance films, children performances and ateliers, workshops for students and professionals, lectures and discussions. These modules encompass all the aspects of the dance environment – from introduction of the youngest audiences, through training, making, perceiving and reflecting this kind of art.
Contemporary dance does not respect boundaries between genres, techniques, art forms and aesthetics. It turns upside down rules and roles, makes the impossible possible, where its bold and attractive gesture resides. We do believe that contemporary dance is a powerful tool for self-knowledge and critical reflection of the world.
Bulgarian Showcase
October 11th – 13th
For the first time SOFIA DANCE WEEK organizes showcase of the Bulgarian contemporary dance.  The showcase of the most up-to-date production of the Bulgarian dance scene will present to the public the local practice in one of the most dynamic developing arts worldwide. The showcase aids the encounter of the Bulgarian performances and artists with foreign audiences and contexts.
