Polska! Folk

  • exhibition graphic, product, interior design from the Balkans

The exhibition Polska! Folk, part of the POLSKA! YEAR initiative, was first presented at Tent London during the London Design Festival in 2009. Inspired by Polish folk art and crafts, the collection covers furniture, lighting, graphics, products, and architecture. Most items are handmade, manufactured in limited editions or one-off designs and prototypes, mainly from natural materials. Upcoming but also well-known artists, such as Malafor, Platform or Gogo, interpret their local folk poetics and heritage. Yet, even with the feel of uniqueness surrounding every object, it is the sum of all that recreates the collective narrative of tradition or as the exhibition description implies – “a change of scale, change of context, change of meaning and function”. The show was curated by Agnieszka Jacobson-Cielecka and will be accompanied by her lecture "Different Identiries of Polsh Design". Past editor-in-chief of Elle Decoration Poland, she worked on several editions of Łódź Design Festival and is currently head of the Design program at the School of Form in Poznań.
