One of the main objectives of SAW is to make the festival not only an event of words, but also an event of actions. We channel all  our efforts towards enriching Sofia not only in the academic, but in the physical field as well. Just like every good piece of architecture is supposed to do. We are organizing a series of three workshops which are meant to leave a positive and sustainable trail after SAW 2011 is over. These workshops will be led by a team of Bulgarian and a foreign architect or office.

Theme 1: Mobile social station /FUNKT + Alberto Iacovoni/

when: Thursday, 3 November, 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

where: +tova, 30 Marin Drinov Str.

The aim of the workshop is to develop and invent a mobile social station that responds to the following conditions: to have places for opposite sitting and communicate directly; to consider kids and where they can play, roll or sit; a place for drinks and food; bag compartment; lighting; bicycle stands; vandalism resistance; variations for weather protection.

Theme 2: TUNING SOFIA /Transformatori + Javier Pena from Xpiral/

when: Friday, 4 November, 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

where: Perform Business Center, 2 Pozitano Sq

Subways in Sofia need to be rethought and redesigned. There are a great number of them with bad maintenance and no design. We think tuning is needed where we have multitude. We hope to find an interesting conversation between the topics of city, infrastructure, technologies and social aspects. We want to develop a “cloud investigation blackboard” which connects to other possible sites in Sofia.

Theme 3: Making the perfect playground /WhATA? + Thomas Kong/

when: Saturday, 5 November, 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

where: Perform Business Center, 2 Pozitano Sq

The aim of the workshop is to prepare an assignment to design a playground beyond the norms, regulations, contracts and standard solutions by first asking users and all interested. An online poll is prepared, which is uploaded on Internet to be completed by 4^th of November. The data afterwards will be processed and on Saturday, 5^th of November, will be discussed and tested among the participants.
