We are thrilled to introduce the first edition of Sofia Dance Week – an international festival for contemporary dance.

Sofia Dance Week is a project of Magazine 1. It takes place each year with the ambition to bring about a positive change in the perception (and lack thereof) of contemporary dance theatre in Bulgaria, as well as to turn into a focal point of Sofia’s cultural calendar. Finally, we want to breathe the life and spirit of a true European city into our capital.

For the exciting first edition we are bringing foreign dance companies of international recognition and class – French, Italian, Belgian and Turkish.

Some of them are avant-garde, others perform in a spectacular and beautiful way; still others show sensuality or a great sense of humour.

Most of the performances are in this year’s programs of the best European dance festivals in Lyon, Istanbul, Berlin and Belgrade.

And all of them, without exception are understandable and fascinating, although they use several languages simultaneously – those of the body, light, shadow, multimedia and video technology, ambient sounds, live music, optical illusions, amazing sets.

The result is impossible to describe. It simply has to be seen.
